Adult Formation Training

Formation Course Offerings in Catechesis of the Good Shepherd

The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is a Montessori-based approach to the religious formation of children, rooted in Sacred Scripture, Liturgy, and respect for the child’s rich relationship with God. Every year, All Saints’ offers courses for adults interested in this method of religious formation. Parents, catechists, religious educators, clergy, and other interested adults are drawn to the very rich, retreat-like courses in Catechesis of the Good Shepherd.

Each CGS training course is designed to attune participants to the religious life of the child and to provide specific methods and materials to foster that life. Through formation courses, adults have the opportunity to see all age appropriate presentations and materials given to children from the Holy Bible and Liturgy. Course sessions include prayer, presentations of materials, background information, discussion of album pages, and work in the atrium.

Each formation course focuses on a specific developmental age group of the child. Level I formation courses prepare adults working with children between the ages of three to six years old. Level II formation courses prepare adults working with six to nine year old children, and Level III courses prepare adults working with nine to twelve year olds. The foundation for CGS begins with the Level I formation course, because this is where a catechist becomes attuned to the religious life of the child.

Typically, All Saints’ offers one of these courses a year. All Saints’ parishioners are invited to attend training at no cost beyond the $35.00 certification fee required by the National Association of the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd.
