Children’s Liturgy of the Word (Children’s Chapel)

Who: Children 3* – 6 years old

*Children’s Liturgy is offered for children as soon as they are 3 years old  and are potty-trained.  It is also offered for children who are 4, 5, and 6 years old and do not wish to attend an atrium session (Catechesis of the Good Shepherd).

What: Children’s Liturgy of the Word is a children’s prayer service modeled from the Book of Common Prayer. Children are guided in praying a Collect, reflecting on the Sunday Lectionary reading, collecting an Offering, Exchanging the Peace, and singing.

Where: Sunshine Room (accessible from the King Garden/Courtyard near the Nursery Sign-In table)

When: Sunday from 11:00 AM** (year round) until children process into church to join their parent(s) during the Offertory.  During the summer months, Children’s Liturgy of the Word is also held in the Sunshine Room at 8:45 AM.  Children process into church to join their parent(s) during the Offertory.

**Childcare is available before and after Children’s Liturgy in the Sunshine Room for children (ages 3 – 6)  whose parents are attending the 8:45 AM service, Adult Formation (Sunday School) classes, and/or the 11:00 AM service.  It is  also open for children who arrive too late (after 8:45 or after 10:15) to attend an atrium session (Catechesis of the Good Shepherd).  Entering the atria late can be unsettling to the arriving child and a distraction to the children receiving lessons.  Parents have the option of having their children join them in church during the Offertory or staying in the Sunshine Room until they pick them up following the service. This can be noted on the sign-in sheet.
